SUMMIT GUIDES FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. How do I book/pay?
A. First fill out the booking form on the course page or email Tom at info@summitguides.com We will then email or phone you back to discuss your requirements. At this point an invoice for your course will be sent to you and you will receive a Confirmation Email.
We don’t have direct online booking on the website as we need to ensure that your objective is right for you before taking any payment.
Q. Can I go on an expedition without doing a UK course first?
A. We like to get to know people before we take them abroad on a big expedition – so a UK course is recommended, such as our Expedition Training Weekend held each March on the West coast of Scotland.
Q. Do you cater for all dietary requirements?
A. On UK courses you supply your own food, for Expeditions, we cater for all dietary requirements - just let us know in advance.
Q. What is provided on each course?
A. For UK courses, the price is for the leader only, and does NOT include accommodation, transport or meals. For Expeditions, the price is Land Only, so while it includes most expenses while in-country, it does not include your flights. Your Trip Information document will contain further details.
Q. What are your ratios?
A. Most UK courses are 1:2, with the exception of Introduction to Scrambling which is 1:4 and Expedition Training Weekends which are 1:6.
Expeditions vary - but generally smaller ratios than the industry norm. Further details on each Expedition page.
Q. Do you take bigger groups on courses or expeditions?
A. No, we like to keep things small to ensure quality, flexibility and safety – but there are other excellent companies that we can recommend that operate with higher ratios.
Q. Where should we stay?
A. For UK courses, accommodation is recommended in the Trip Information form sent out on booking. For expeditions, accommodation is included.
Q. I need to cancel, what should I do?
A. Please see our Booking Conditions and let us know ASAP.
Q. How fit do I need to be?
A. The fitter you are, the easier you’ll find your Summit Guides course or expedition. Specific fitness requirements are in the Pre-requisites section - any questions just ask!
Q. Are there age limits?
A. All participants must be 18 years old or over (unless accompanied by a parent or guardian). There is no upper age limit although older participants may find more modest objectives appropriate.
Q. Is insurance required?
A. Travel insurance is optional but recommended for UK courses, and essential for expeditions. For expeditions, check the insurance covers both the required altitude and helicopter evacuation. BMC Insurance and Global Rescue are recommended.
